I have been painting some larger paintings in the studio recently and here is an image of the most recent one. I have titled it 'Calm Water before dusk by the Packing Shed' and it is from an area on Mersea Island that I keep returning to. In fact it is a few steps further on from where I painted 'The Packing Shed' which was exhibited and sold at last years Royal Institute of Oil Painters exhibition in London. It is 60cm x 85cm and is painted on board. I wanted to paint the calm water just before dusk and I was also looking forward to producing quite a tonal image with subtle harmonised colour which is heavily influenced by the grey/blue light. I also focussed on keeping the painterly feel on a larger surface and was conscious of not over working the piece so got the larger brushes out! There is a hint of the Packing Shed in the background behind two old rusted and ruined barges.
