Stormy Sky

This is a studio painting from a photograph.  I liked the moody sky and this sketch only took about 15 minutes.  I didn't want to over work the painting and wanted to keep a wild look about it.  The excersise was mostly to concentrate on the use of subtle colour in an otherwise lifeless image.

The paint was applied quite thin and wiped away in places with a rag.  Highlights were then added and the land was put in.

I sometimes think simple paintings can retain the purity of an idea without the chance to fiddle or labour the work too much.
