ROI paintings delivered to the Mall Galleries

My three paintings have been delivered to the Mall Galleries in preparation for this years Royal Institute of Oil Painters exhibition. Unfortunately it was a bit of a rainy day, but after the work was dropped off we spent a lovely afternoon at M1 Fine Art in Greenwich, for a gathering to mark the end of the ROI paints Greenwich exhibition.

Here are my three paintings for the ROI. They are a bit larger than I normally work but it is great to have the freedom to use loose, expressive brush marks and still create a representational painting.

North Norfolk Coast, Oil on board, approx. 60cm x 90cm £2995

Open Estuary, Oil on board, approx. 60cm x 90cm £2995

Summer Pasture, Oil on board, approx. 60cm x 90cm £2995

I have been working a lot in the studio recently and will be sending some more work out to galleries in the next few weeks - more to follow...

Three paintings at M1 Fine Art in Greenwich

The Royal Institute of Oil Painters are exhibiting at the M1 Fine Art Gallery in Greenwich, London between 2 September to 2 October 2016. There are 15 artists exhibiting - more details here where you can download a brochure and read more about the exhibition. When I went to Greenwich to explore the area it was a varied day with cloud giving way to warm sunshine in the afternoon. Hopefully my three paintings below capture the changeable atmosphere of the day.

St Alfege's Church, Oil on board, 10in x 8in

New book 'Artist's Painting Techniques' published

I have been a bit quiet on the blog for a while due to working on a new book called 'Artist's Painting Techniques' alongside commissions and my regular painting. It is now available and includes sections on Watercolour, Acrylic and Oil. I have written and illustrated the introduction and oil painting sections while several other artists have tackled the watercolour and acrylic sections. The book covers 30 techniques for each medium and splits them into beginner, intermediate and advanced with step by step instruction.

It was great to work with Dorling Kindersley on this book and a good challenge covering different styles and subject matters. The book is available from all good bookshops and online too RRP £20.

Thompson's Christmas Exhibition

I am pleased to say that I have delivered four new paintings to Thompson's Gallery in Aldeburgh ready for their Christmas Exhibition from 5 December. They are shown below, two of Pin Mill and the other two of Mersea Island.

I love the old boats at Pin Mill and I keep returning. Its nice to see the boats move around as some come and go while the houseboats stay year in and year out, but every time I go there I see something different.

After Lunch at Pin Mill, Oil on board, 18in x 24in, £1350

Monkey Beach - West Mersea, Oil on board, 16in x 30in, £1895

Dusk at Pin Mill, Oil on board, 18in x 24in, £1350

Sunset over Saltmarsh, Oil on board, 10in x 16in, £795

The sunsets on Mersea Island never fail to impress me and although I have painted them too many times to count, they are a great way of focussing on colour and of course light. All the work is now on Thompson's website which can be viewed here

Latest Paintings

It has been a while since I have added anything new to my blog - mainly due to spending every spare minute painting. Below are some of my recent paintings which have now found their way out of the studio and onto gallery walls. Please click on the Gallery headers to link through to the Gallery website where more details are available.

Peter Barker Fine Art

Here is one of my favourite paintings, I particularly enjoyed using thicker oil paint in the foreground and to emphasise some of the clouds. The colours harmonise throughout the painting too which makes subjects like these a joy to paint.

Green Fields, Oil on board, 10in x 14in, £720

Sea Pictures Gallery, Clare

These are the remaining paintings from a recent collection which was delivered to Sea Pictures as part of the East Anglian Group of Marine Artists show. If you are interested to see other paintings I have at the gallery please click the link above.

At Pin Mill, Oil on board, 8in x 10in, £540

Wells, Oil on board, 8in x 10in, £540

Below are three larger paintings which are available from the Adrian Hill Gallery in Holt. In larger paintings its easier to make the most of the texture of oil paint and in these paintings there are nice thick passages of paint alongside flatter sections, better seen in the flesh if you are up in Holt, but the photos give a good idea.

At Blakeney, Oil on board, 30in x 40in, £3600

Brancaster, Oil on board, 18in x 24in, £1350

Morston, Oil on board, 18in x 24in, £1350
